I have always loved dogs.   Not much of a cat lover, so if you are looking for stories about cats you are at the wrong site.

Our dogs are always considered family members and we spoil them to death.

Most of my life I have had dogs. For six years I was a breeder Anatolian Shepherds, these dogs are a large livestock guard dog. I shipped them all over the United States.

Over the years, I have had many breeds of dogs. Most of the dogs were medium to large breeds. When I was a kid, we had small breed dogs. My parents preferred smaller dogs.

Being 6′ 6″ tall I have always liked bigger dogs, it is easier to pet them without having to get on the floor. However, since my wife and I have retired. We have agreed that when are two kids(dogs) pass away we will be downsizing to smaller breeds.

What is in Dog Food

Have you ever wonder what is really in dog food?  Being retired I do a lot of searching on the internet.  Recently, I was looking into making dog food for our dogs and came across this video on what is in dog food.  I was amazed how dog food is regulated in different countries.  Click on this link to watch this video.  ENTER HERE

Decision making?

What to do with your new dog? Are you going to become a breeder? Take it from experience, yes we are dog lovers and have always been part of our lives. But dog breeding is a very big commitment and very time consuming. Then it also takes a few litters sold to get your name out there and how your puppies are treated and how your own dogs are treated when people come to you when looking for a puppy.

When you find a breeder that you are thinking about because you like pictures or prices of puppies, ask the breeder for previous buyers contact information. The breeder should not have a problem in giving you this information. Call some previous buyers for references on the
breeder that you are thinking about doing business with.

If not breeding or showing, you should always be a responsible owner of a dog or puppy and get it spayed or neutered. There are too many animals in shelters that are in need of a home and by spaying or neutering it cuts down the population of unwanted animals in the shelters and
the possibility of them being put to sleep permanently.

Does anyone in your household have allergies? If so, the best thing is to look at a dog or puppy that does not shed such as a Poodle or even a Golden Doodle (which is mixed with Golden Retriever and Standard Poodle in general). But, on the Golden Doodle I have been told to look into the genealogy of this breed to make sure it has more Poodle bloodline in it for the shedding aspect.

And always keep your animal vaccinated through your veterinarian and have them taken to your vet every year from an annual exam to check for any issues that you might need to be aware of.

What kind of dog are you looking for?

When it’s time to get a new dog or puppy for you or your family there are some things to think about to pick the right dog or puppy.

Do you have children? You need to make sure of the breed of dog that will accept all ages of children. Some dogs would prefer older children that do not pick on them so much rather than just play with them what I mean on this, is like pulling a dog’s hair or even tail. This is just an accident waiting to happen, with the dog getting upset and biting the child this is just a reflex of the dog to bite in some circumstances because of the pulling. The child just needs to be taught this is not to be done because in turn they could be hurt by the dog by accident.

Do you have other animals? Make sure you take other domestic animals with you to new dog or puppy to make sure they all get along. It’s always a good idea to do this. There are at times that animals just do not get along and it’s good that you find out ahead of time instead of getting the new puppy or dog to your house and then end up having so much trouble with them that actually one could get seriously injured. You have also fallen for the new dog or puppy and now you have to in turn take it back where you got it if they will let you bring it back or end up putting up with havoc until you find a new home for your new animal.

What type of dog personality are you looking for? There are all types of dogs to chose from. It’s always best to find the right one that will fit your needs. Are you an active person? Then focus on a high maintenance and high energy level dog. Some suggestions are, Dalmatians, Retrievers, Jack Russells, Golden Retrievers and Shepherds of all sorts. This is just a few dogs that have high energy levels for your active life. If you are more of a stay at home person and laid back, maybe focus on a good couch potato dog. A great dog for this is a GreyHound, yes a greyhound even though these dogs did their share of racing and you would think they love to run that is not true. Once these dogs retire their racing life they love to just lay around and yes preferably on the couch and will take the whole couch. They don’t mind a short walk, but they are just looking for a new home that they totally deserve. Plus, there are several other dogs for this lifestyle too.
